Premiere: New Keel Her Video for "Don't Doubt"
Keel Her released her remarkable new album With Kindness on June 7 via O Genesis, and thanks to ace singles “Complain Train” and “Empathy”, the album has swiftly become one of our favorite releases this year. Today, WMF has the distinct pleasure of premiering the video for new Keel Her track “Don’t Doubt” , also from the With Kindness album.
The “Don’t Doubt” video is directed by Ola Arent. Rose Keeler-Schäffeler (aka Keel Her) shared the following background to the track and video with us:
“‘Don't Doubt’ is a short song I wrote/recorded on the same day as (the demo of) “No Control”; all those songs are on an EP called Not Myself. I'd been feeling low because I worked full time in the week, was worn out after work, and the weekends seemed to disappear to chores, socialising, exercising, etc.
I used to write to make myself feel better, but I'd been getting frustrated every time I started. I was too inside my head and was comparing myself to others. But I noticed the patterns; I was recording when I was exhausted, and that is when the self-criticism emerges. That weekend I stayed inside and vowed to donate more future time to writing, which in turn reduced my self-criticism.
The video was made by Ola Arent (Director) and Martin Stewart (Camera). Ola emailed me last year about doing a video. She said when she moved to the UK a couple years ago, her friend showed her my music, and it made the soundtrack to her London life in the very beginning. I really liked Ola's style - it reminded me of Jan Švankmajer, and a creepy VHS I used to watch as a child called The Old Man of the Mountain, narrated by Brian Blessed.”
