DRINKS - "Hermits on Holiday"
DRINKS - the brilliantly off-kilter duo made up of Cate Le Bon and Tim Presley - occupy a special place in our hearts here at Weirdo Music Forever. Both Le Bon and Presley possess formidable track records as solo artists, and their remarkable joint musical endeavors as DRINKS have made an especially compelling artistic statement. Deftly navigating the balance between the weird and the accessible, DRINKS is as thoroughly individual as it is engaging, and warrants special attention.
The duo’s 2015 “Hermits on Holiday” single, with its delightfully loping groove, otherworldly vocals, and irresistible playfulness, certainly stands out as an excellent example of everything we love about DRINKS. We spoke at length with Tim Presley in 2018, and took the opportunity to ask him about this song in particular. Tim recalled the following about the track:
“It’s a good one to get a sense of the band. It’s so strange thinking about this now, and how I don’t even know where any of it came from other than we were in the same mindset at the same time. It just ended up working for us.
Nothing was brought to the table like, ‘Hey – check out this riff.’ It was like a blackout moment where I don’t remember how it came together, other than egging each other on. It’s kind of a lame word, but it was completely organic in that way.”
Wherever it came from, we’re glad ”Hermits on Holiday” is around for us to enjoy. The seven-inch single features Tim Presley’s visual art, and its B-side treats listeners to “Eighteen Teenage Revenge Pair”. You can hear and purchase more DRINKS music here.
