Taraka Shares Her Cover of Jesus and Mary Chain's "Reverence" on Easter Sunday

We’ve fervently followed and enjoyed Taraka Larson’s work in sibling duo Prince Rama as well as her more recent and recommended solo releases. Last year’s '“0010110’” single from debut Taraka album Welcome to Paradise Lost made such an impression on us that we happily included it on our 2021 year-end Top Tracks list.

Taraka shared the following exclusive insights into her cover of “Reverence”, released not-so-coincidentally on Easter Sunday:

“I've never been that into doing covers, but Jesus and Mary Chain started appearing in my dreams and this song in particular haunted me. It felt like a goth Easter anthem. The past couple years have felt like watching my entire life unravel in slow motion. Not just a personal death, but a collective death as well (anyone else??). The more I tried to fight it, the more defeated I felt. "Reverence" became a mantra of sorts... a spell to ward off the darkness. "I wanna die just like Jesus Christ... I wanna die... I wanna die... " The more I listened to it, the more I realized instead of resisting death, what I actually needed to do was embrace it... not literally, but on a symbolic level... embracing the death of the old world, the unravelling of illusion, the dissolution of the empty worn out version of myself so my spirit could be reborn anew, resurrected like a phoenix rising from the ashes. Perhaps it is paradoxically through surrendering to death that we truly learn how to live. And if that ain't the goth spirit of Easter, I don't know what is.”
