The WMF x Skim Milk Cap is Here, and We're Thrilled

WMF is exceptionally excited to announce that we’ve partnered with Skim Milk for the one-off collaborative 2021 WMF x Skim Milk Cap. The pairing is a natural one since WMF has long admired Skim Milk and WHOLE, and regarded them as more than simply clothing brands. On the contrary – we believe the ingenuity, provocative irreverence, and passion of Skim Milk and WHOLE elevate the brands’ items to the realm of art. Given that, we were thrilled when the prospect a professional intersection with the Skim Milk brand became a reality this year.

Designed by Skim Milk founder Josh Scholl, the WMF x Skim Milk Cap is an unprecedented celebration of the two kindred entities, and we couldn’t be happier with this rare item. Making the collaboration extra special and “family-oriented,” WMF muse and international legend Gary Wilson graciously and beautifully modeled the cap, cementing the collaboration’s permanent place in weirdo music history.

Bobby Weirdo: What gave you the idea of a Skim Milk / Weirdo Music Forever collaboration?

Josh Scholl: Music is my number one passion. If there weren’t music, I wouldn’t want to live. Weirdo Music Forever hits my G-spot [as far as] where my taste in music goes. I think the cap goes with the esthetic of Weirdo Music Forever because it’s simple, pointed, and direct – if you know, you know. It’s letting people know what you fuck with. Do you know BOY London?

BW: Yes.

JS: [Something similar to] the BOY caps with Weirdo Music Forever spoke to me. But the WMF x Skim Milk Cap is definitely its own thing. I know the customer already, and can envision it on them.

BW: Can you give some background to the Skim Milk brand?

JS: I’ve been in L.A. for almost eight years, but I started Skim Milk in 2009, when I was still in Chicago. I started WHOLE four years ago.

BW: And how would you describe WHOLE, as opposed to Skim Milk? Is it Skim Milk’s luxury counterpart?

JS: Yeah – Skim Milk is more mood board, harkening back to Tumblr days, where it’s a vomit of whatever I’m into at the moment. Whole is definitely more elevated. Skim Milk is good quality, but WHOLE is upper echelon.

BW: Gary Wilson modeled this cap for the collaboration. What does he mean to you, or embody for Weirdo Music Forever?

JS: Gary epitomizes everything that weirdo music is. You can tell by how many people his music has touched. There are the obvious musicians that fuck with him and have been inspired by him, like Tyler the Creator, Earl Sweatshirt, and Questlove. There are so many different folks in that realm.

I had a two and a half hour phone call with him, and also did the collaboration shoot with him. I’m going to take some of the things we talked about to my grave, and just grin about it. He makes me feel not weird, and there’s no one else that it could be [for this collaboration].

I’m glad that it happened exactly the way that it did. He embodies everything I love about music, and especially You Think You Really Know Me is the perfect record, with so many different sounds and genres. It has every kind of genre, but is also sort of genre-less. And that’s kind of the vibe of my brand – I’m non-committal about it all. Whatever I’m feeling, that’s where I go. I’m grateful that someone like [Gary] exists.

BW: What’s coming up for Skim Milk and WHOLE in 2021?

JS: I love collaborating with musicians, and a Daniel Johnston collaboration will be coming out September 1. The entire WHOLE collection will be Daniel Johnston, so it will be a hat, sweatpants, socks, and t-shirts [with] a lot of graphics that people haven’t seen. I went deep.

There’s a Butthole Surfers / Skim Milk collaboration coming up, and a few more that are incubating. Pizza Slime is going to do a Skim Milk collab, a re-drop of the collab with Sparks to coincide with the documentary’s release later this year, 100% Electronica, a Vice collection, and a lot [more] is in the works.
