RECAP: A Night to Remember at Zebulon with Joon, Esper Star, Desire, and Friends
We’d been looking forward to the March 30 Joon / Esper Star / Desire show at Zebulon in L.A. for quite some time, and can now report that our patience was as well warranted as it was rewarded. Although not an official Italians Do It Better night, all three artists on the bill are card-carrying members of the iconic collective, and brought the unique personality, fun, and quality associated with IDIB to Frogtown on the last Thursday of the month.
Desire’s Megan Louise deftly covered all DJ duties before and in-between the live sets. Esper Star’s opening set contained her signature ethereal mood, but also packed a pleasantly unexpected punch and included captivating collaboration with sword-wielding dancer ZuZu.
Joon hails from Malta and is currently on her first professional visit to the States, so few in the room had experienced her remarkable live set. Taking it all in, we couldn’t shake the feeling that many more people in the coming months are going to become familiar with —and fans of— her dynamic music and performances.
