Creative Audio Laboratory Shares Debut EP Sincerely Yours alongside “25 Years from Now” Single and Video

“This is Wonky Pop at its finest” - Tim Burgess

“70s soft rock, delivered by an alien” - Jason Falkner

New Creative Audio Laboratory single “25 Years from Now” is out now via Weirdo Music Forever Records. The latest track and video are CAL’s fifth and final single from the 2022/2023 audio-visual project and debut EP Sincerely Yours (also released May 12).

With adventures in Los Angeles, Tijuana, Rosarito, La Rumorosa, and even outer space, the ongoing CAL saga ventured further and further away from the artist’s Southern California starting point. Finally, this song and video cycle is concluding where it all started — home.

As with the previous four CAL releases, pop music legend Jason Falkner is once again responsible for all production, recording, arranging, and mixing duties in addition to his signature performance contributions. And just like the previous four singles, “25 Years from Now ” was tracked at Falkner’s Rhetoric Studio in Echo Park.

On the visual side, Angel Estrada Fuentes (Tesoro Audiovisual) and his team reunited with CAL to create the “25 Years from Now” video, following their award-winning work on music videos “You Don’t Need a Reason” and “Eggshells”, as well as the “A Matter of Time”. This fifth CAL video is especially remarkable in that it features Jason Falkner not only behind the scenes musically, but also on screen. Staying esthetically consistent and on the same psychedelic wavelength, UK visual artist Russell Hardman is the talent behind the CAL cover artwork for both the single and EP.

Tim Burgess had this to say about CAL and the latest single and video, “25 Years from Now”:

“CAL knows good things, filtering the sensitive side of Todd Rundgren (‘Tiny Demons’) and Beefheart’s ‘My Head Is My Only House When It Rains’. Chops earned from being in a touring troupe with Gary Wilson, all recordings produced by Jason Falkner and a video directed by Angel Estrada Fuentes. This is ‘wonky’ pop at its finest.”

Anders Michael offered the following insight into the video for “25 Years from Now”:

“It became clear pretty quickly that the songs and videos on Sincerely Yours had a natural, intrinsic arc to them. ‘25 Years from Now’ —both aurally and visually— has a feeling of touching down to me, and where better to touch down than home? The entire video is intensely personal to me, conjuring childhood memories and joys, and honestly reflecting the sort of sad/happy juxtaposition that is CAL. Enhancing all this, we incorporated actual Super8 recently-found footage of my family. The serendipitous timing of all the above —like so much of the CAL project— was uncanny and too perfect to ignore. The result is something of which I will forever be proud.

Anders Michael offered the following insights into collaborating with Jason Falkner on Sincerely Yours and his appearance in the “25 Years from Now” music video:

“I’ve spoken extensively about how natural, inspiring, and fun it was working with Jason this EP. He knew what I was going for immediately upon receiving my first demos, and we never looked back or ever had to reevaluate what what we were going for with these songs. ‘25 Years from Now’ —like all five tracks on the Sincerely Yours EP— embodies genuine passion for classic pop songwriting’s characteristics with its lyrics, melody, and chords, but crucially also a slight left-of-center sensibility that I call ‘subtle psychedelia.’ As Jason so aptly once described our CAL m.o., it is indeed ‘70s soft rock, delivered by an alien.’

On the visual end of this new CAL chapter, I’m overjoyed that Jason was able to be in the music video for '25 Years from Now’ — it just works on so many levels. Not only is he one of the crucial components of what this project has become, but he is also someone I consider a friend and someone with whom I share so many common interests. As fanciful and fun as the video is, it really does capture our kinship, as well as reenforcing that this particular creative journey has come full circle.”
