PREMIERE: Lord Friday the 13th Embrace Their Theatrical Surrealism with "Mourning Glories" Single and Video
We were equal parts thrilled and honored when Lord Friday the 13th asked us if we’d be interested in premiering the music video for their brand new single “Mourning Glories”. We became fast fans of both the video and track, which is the first release from the Austin-based sibling duo since their spring 2023 EP Disaster Piece. We’re delighted to be the first to share this fabulously fun gem, and are confident LF13’s unique brand of theatrical surrealism is going to be appreciated by an exponentionally-growing audience in the weeks to come.
Gilbert Trejo directed and filmed “Mourning Glories” in Los Angeles on 16mm alongside cinematographer Max Flick. Featuring special appearances courtesy Dani Miller (Surfbort, Trashworld) and the beloved and historic Bob Baker Marionette Theater, “Mourning Glories” draws inspiration from the 1971 James Bidgood cult classic Pink Narcissus, and is described by LF13 as "an origin story of sorts, detailing the ‘birth’ of Lord Friday and how he came to be.” Truly a team effort, LF13 created the video’s props themselves, while Gilbert Trejo and Max Flick also contributed ample practical effects and lighting wizardry to the mix.
Felix and Sloane Lenz (LF13) recorded the "Mourning Glories” track at Bedrock Studios in Cavan, Ireland alongside The Strypes and The Zen Arcade alumni Pete O’Hanlon and Evan Walsh. The track subsequently made its way to Brendan Benson of The Raconteurs in Nashville for mixing.

Lord Friday the 13th embarks on their European tour October 24, and we’ve also heard rumblings of an early 2024 L.A. show among other dates. Lastly (for now) our understanding —directly from LF13— is that the duo will be releasing a 5-track EP early next year titled Murder Music. Given the above, all signs are pointing to us eagerly circling back with Lord Friday the 13th for exciting updates this year, next year, and beyond.
