Bambina Puts Aside the Preconceptions With Soft Heat EP
L.A.’s multi-talented Bambina has shared her Soft Heat EP — a release we’ve been anticipating for some time now here at WMF. We’ve happily covered Soft Heat’s previous singles “Anyway U Want It” as well as the title track and are delighted to finally hear them within the context of the complete EP. While we already greatly admired Bambina’s work in the years leading up to this newest release, Soft Heat is the artist’s most unabashedly pop and dance-oriented release to date, accompanied by a straight-forward sincerity that makes this release a bold, worthy, and welcome addition to the Bambina canon.
We were eager for more info on Soft Heat directly from Bambina, and she generously shared these new and exclusive insights with us about the EP:
My brother Shakewell, who lives in Miami, urged me to visit him in 2021 & work with one of his producers, Mikey the Magician. Rocci joined us and we made an incredible team. I felt vulnerable & had no idea what vibe or genre we would end up with. Coming from a more indie/DIY band background, it was nice to put any ideas aside of what kind of music I should be making and really let myself go. These songs remind me a lot of what I grew up listening to & in a lot of ways feel more honest and true to who I am.
Some of the vocals in "Anyway U Want It" & "Daylight", especially the harmonies, remind me of Mariah Carey. "Let Me Know" is really the only song in the EP that gets a little salty. It feels like a sexy breakup anthem & is definitely naturally inspired by Janet Jackson.
Our understanding is that there is an "Anyway U Want It" music video on the horizon along with news regarding a special live Bambina performance, so we feel confident we’ll be circling back with Bambina soon.
